What does an artist get inspiration from? From the movement of a flock of birds maybe, the light of the first morning of spring or the encounter with an extraordinary person. In the case of this solo recording saxophone player and composer Peter Materna encountered a room that impressed him very deeply, its sound and its paintings on the wall. The room’s acoustic situation opens a spacious field to interpret own compositions, pieces of the Great American Songbook and improvisations. Materna begins his programme with the Bach chorale "Jesu meine Freude", bringing out unexpected musical facets.
